At Friday’s prayers, the crowd often shouts: “Death to America!” But on the field, U.S basketball players get all the honors. More and more Iranian clubs are recruiting Americans to lift up their team’s play level. They disburse up to $200,000 per season to have them in their ranks.
For the U.S. players, the culture shock is obvious, but many ask to stay longer as they discover the positive sides of this alleged “Axis of evil” member country.
Only the U.S. Treasury does its best to spoil their stay: it accuses them of breaching U.S. economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
